A 17-year-old boy was sentenced to 12 years in prison after being convicted of three young boys R@Ping several times in his arrest in 2021.
The Calvinian District Court announced the ruling this weekend, marking the end of a agonizing case that shocked small Northern Cape communities.
The teenager (just 14 at the time of the first attack) welcomed three boys at the age of four, six and eight, according to Colonel Chelaer Elles, a spokesman for the Northern Cape police. The attack occurred several times when the victim played football alone.
The defendant was convicted on five counts of R@PE, and the court sentenced him to 12 years in prison for each charge. However, these sentences will run simultaneously, meaning he will be behind at most 12 years.
Northern Cape Police Chief Lieutenant Koliswa Otola praised the investigation team, especially Detective Order official David Matthys and State Attorney Darryl Bromkamp, who had done thorough work to ensure convictions.
The case has deeply troubled Nigodville residents, with many calling for stricter measures to protect children from S3xual violence. Sentencing brings some closure to the victim’s families, although the trauma caused to young boys will require long-term support and counseling.
The case has made people vulnerable to children and the urgent need for S3xual Predators, regardless of their age. Authorities urge anyone with information about similar crimes to come forward and report it to the police immediately.
