Southampton Football Club lowered one of the worst records in match history from the 2024/25 Premier League.
The Saints’ relegation was confirmed after being defeated by Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 on Sunday, April 6, 2025. Southampton also wrote their names on the mistakes of history books, becoming the first team to have the remaining seven games of the season.
Previous records were initially reserved by Derby County, which relegated six games from the Premier League to the end of the 2008 season. The loss against the Spurs left Southampton with just 10 points in 31 games, which is why they are rooted in the top of the Premier League.
However, Southampton supporters will hope that teams can still earn more points despite confirming their relegation as they hope to avoid being the worst team in Premier League history with the least score in a season.
