Students in the Southwest threaten to protest large-scale tariffs on telecom hiking.
Nigeria News Nalin The report said the Southwest of the National College Students Association has called on the federal government to reverse the rate hike of telecommunications tariffs.
The university student body said the country will witness learners’ mobilization for hiking if the government and other stakeholders fail to address the issue.
Other top priorities Naus asked the government to address, including insecurity on campus, seizure generation and constant strikes.
The students made these requests at a press conference in Lagos on Thursday.
According to a statement signed by NAUS National Vice President (Southwest), Tiamiyu Olayinka, as students rely on affordable internet access in this digital age, the reversal of telecom tariffs is crucial.
“Students on campus rely on affordable internet access to attend virtual lectures, conduct research, submit assignments and participate in online discussions.
“Through increasing telecom tariffs, these key academic participation is being interrupted. We call on relevant authorities to act quickly and responsibly to address urgent concerns.
It added: “Not meeting our requirements will leave us with no choice but to browse students in the Southwest and boldly defend our rights and provide a better academic environment for all.”
