The famous chief of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Segun Sowunmi dismissed the idea that it was similar to the alliance formed in 2013 that led to the rise of All Progressives Concres (APC) and eventually defeated PDP in 2015, which could be replicated as Bola Tinubu and Acc acc and Acc and 2027, and as Bola Tinubu and 2027 in the future.
In an interview with Punch, Sowunmi believed that the political dynamics in 2027 were very different from those in 2015, stressing that no political party is willing to give up its identity for the sake of the alliance today.
Sowunmi said, One unnecessarily assumes that a direct replica of what happened in 2015 will disappoint APC. I think times are different. This is so different from what happened in 2015 that no one interested in politics should not be blinded by the fact that Nigeria has no political party in Nigeria, because there is no competition today in Nigeria because it is a unique competition.
He stressed that the PDP is willing to welcome new members, but not at the expense of their identity or structure.
“The PDP will participate in an election and welcomes anyone who wants to join our platform to join our platform as members of our party, open themselves to receive as many Nigerian people as possible.
“Of course, the People’s Democratic Party was a party that registered in 1998 and had many governors because anyone’s ambitions would never decline. I also doubt Labour would be willing to go that path, too. I also don’t know if the NNPP would go this path with anyone,” He said.
Naija News According to reports, Sowenmi also disagrees with this notion that combining political heavyweights from all parties will definitely lead to more votes than APC. He noted that while these parties may have large followings alone, their support bases are often mutually exclusive.
“Their numbers may be independent, but they are also mutually exclusive in some ways. Those who will give Segun numbers may not give Raheem numbers. Those who will give Raheem may not give Segun. Combining Segun and Raheem, you can’t strictly say that Raheem and Segun will get numbers that they get separately from,” Sowunmi explained.
Nigerians are unlikely to support the same old politician
Sowunmi further pointed out that the alliance of old politicians will work to convince Nigerians to vote for them in 2027 because they are not new leaders.
He believes that Nigerians may scrutinize the past actions of these people and refuse the idea of repackaging them as new faces.
“Nigerians will be forced to review their previous activities, especially when they are not new friends who are unknown. He said.
The PDP Chief also highlighted the internal cleft within any potential opposition coalition, noting that many politicians involved in the coalition talks had their own ambitions.
He believes this will lead to a challenge to identify the party’s presidential candidate and campaign partner.
“The other area where I see the challenge is that they know they will plan to deceive each other because they each have presidential ambitions. Who will be the presidential candidate when you drag them into some kind of alliance? Who will be the vice?” Sowunmi added.
