Nollywood actor and producer Stanley Ontop has expressed serious concerns over the safety of actress Angela Okorie following reports that authorities may try to re-arrest her immediately upon her release from Suleja Prison.
Angela Okorie was detained at Suleja Prison last week for allegedly defaming actress Mercy Johnson. The Federal High Court in Abuja granted her bail on Friday.
Although bail was granted, Angela remains behind bars, leaving fans confused and worried about the delay.
In an update shared on Instagram on Monday, February 3, Stanley Ontop explained that the delay was due to the verification process of her sponsor’s residential address. He confirmed that the court had now approved her release, removing the final obstacle to her imprisonment.
Stanley wrote:
“Angela Okorie will be out in a few minutes. There was a delay yesterday in verifying her sponsor’s address, but the court has now signed off on her release.”
He further claimed that new information suggests that a fresh petition has been filed against the actress. According to him, police were reportedly stationed outside Suleja prison, ready to detain Angela again as soon as she left.
“We have received information that there is a new petition against Angela Okorie and that some police officers are stationed in front of Suleja prison with a view to re-arresting her as soon as she is released,” he said.
Stanley also criticized the Nigerian police for abandoning due process and professionalism and demanded:
“@nigeriapoliceforce Is this how you operate? What happened to the invitations? Why are citizens being arrested by those who are supposed to protect them?”
He concluded with a heartfelt plea to the authorities to ensure Angela’s safety upon her release:
“Make sure nothing happens to Angela Okorie on the day she comes out of jail. May that never happen to you in Nigeria.” he wrote.
