One woman urged Nigerians to stop using sponges while taking a bath, stressing that bathing should be done with soap and water only.
In the video that was so popular on social media, she highlighted the potential dangers of scrubbing her body with a sponge.
Take the sponge as an example, she admits that her advice might be “too late” but she feels forced to warn people not to use sponges while taking a shower.
She said: “Don’t bathe with a sponge, I don’t say it’s too late to say that d don’t dey, so I suggest una.
The woman explained that scrubbing with a sponge can create tiny cuts on the skin, called “micro-tear”. She said the small openings allow microorganisms to enter the body, which could lead to skin infections.
She also stressed that the skin naturally produces oils that can be used as a protective one and should not be removed unnecessarily. She noted that stripping the oil often causes itching and discomfort after taking a shower.
She further advises that only people exposed to very dirty or demanding work may benefit from using sponges. For those in the office or performing lighter duties, she recommends avoiding sponges altogether.
