Naija News In Lagos State, Eko Electric Power Distribution Company (EKEDC) and Ikeja Electric Power Distribution Company (IKEDC) were reportedly beaten by suspected military personnel for their power issues in their military camps.
In a statement Monday, Amnesty International condemned the EKEDC invasion that occurred weeks after IKEDC staff was also invaded and beaten by military personnel.
It stressed that military recklessness in Nigeria continued to occur as the government failed to stop them from considering their atrocities.
It reads: The Nigerian authorities must provide clear instructions to the military to stop invading and torture electric workers, just to do their jobs. EKO Electric Power Distribution Company (EKEDC) reported that the military invaded its substation and kidnapped two staff members.
“Witnesses told Amnesty International that soldiers forced the distribution system operator (DSO) and the power company’s proton security officers to their barracks, where they were beaten and tortured for hours.
“This is a few weeks after the soldiers launched a violent attack on workers in Ikeja Electric Power Distribution Company. The soldiers beat the workers and took some of them to the gun to their barracks where they were tortured and other degraded treatment.
“The recklessness of the Nigerian army is due to the fact that the authorities have been unable to make them commit a long list of atrocities. The Nigerian authorities must conduct an independent investigation promptly to ensure justice for such impunity victims.”
