Nigerian midfielder Joe Aribo and his team, Super Eagles, have been relegated to the Premier League long ago, but still have seven games.

Southampton confirmed Southampton’s relegation after a tough game against Totterham Hotspur, Brennan Johnson made an impressive performance. The Welsh forward scored an opening goal in the 13th minute, converting DJED Spence to a superior position, adding James Maddison’s cleverly flashing header before halftime, putting Southampton under early pressure.

Although Mateus Fernandes managed to score a late comfort goal in the 90th minute, the game ended a big moment when Mathys Tel scored his first Spurs goal from the free throw, sealing Southampton’s fate.

Note that Aribo was replaced by Will Smallbone in the 64th minute game when he lost 2-0 in Southampton. In his absence, the Spurs scored once and his team scored a comfort target to end the game 3-1 in support of the home run.

Nigeria-born French footballer Lesley Ugochukwu and Super Hawks forward Paul Onuachu also played a big role in the game, but couldn’t help avoiding Southampton from relegation.

Southampton’s early relegation in 2024-2025 marked a historic moment as they became the first Premier League team to relegate with seven games, surpassing Derby County, which had six games left in the 2007-08 season.

The atmosphere at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was conquered before the game by a pre-match protest against Chairman Daniel Levy, reflecting the tough habits of the team, with increasing attention to manager Angel Postecoglou.

With just one win in the last 10 home games, the Spurs are in a volatile position, ranking fifth from the bottom of the table at the beginning of the day. But the victory put them in 14th place with 37 points in 31 games.
