The court stressed that due process for local government elections must be strictly followed to ensure fairness, transparency and legitimacy.
With this ruling, the term of elected local government chairpersons and councillors has been effectively repealed, creating uncertainty about leadership in 23 local government areas in Rivers.

Supreme Court Bar CBN, Others From Freeing Funds to Rivers Government
The Supreme Court has issued an order to prevent the payment of funds from paying to the River State Government from paying funds.
The court said the ruling would remain in effect until a properly composed House of Representatives is in place.
