The tragedy occurred in the capital of Kwa State because of the damage caused by 30 minutes of heavy rainstorms in the Lower Niger River Development Authority complex in Ilorin.
The incident claimed the life of Taekwondo coach and champion Musa Ismail Adeyinka and destroyed newly renovated sports facilities and other residential buildings.
The incident occurred between 5.30pm and 6pm on Monday, April 21, 2025, at the Badminton Court in the LNRBDA building.
Witnesses said part of the building collapsed during the storm, fatally hurting Mousa who was playing at the facility with his friends.
According to witnesses, part of the troubled facility is part of a recent renovation project conducted by the previous administration.
“A part of the newly renovated badminton court executed by the former government collapsed and fell on the late coach,” a source eager to remain anonymous told Punch.
A staff member at the LNRBDA headquarters confirmed the incident but clarified that the deceased was not an employee of the authorities.
The staff member said: “The incident was very tragic and unfortunately happened in the rain on Monday, but no one could speak except the managing director, who is not here now.
