Heartbroken echoed on Tuesday morning, May 5 at the Blessing Center Church in Emmasdale, Lusaka, Zambia, where family and friends gathered to mourn the tragic loss of the three brothers, Nathan (7), Emmanuel Jr. (4), and Subilo Phiri (4) and Subilo Phiri (2), who were terrified in a destructive house.
A devastating lightning strike killed the deadly house fire in two Ngwee areas in Kabanana, Lusaka, on Saturday, May 3, 2025, claiming the life of his brother.
According to police reports, the children’s father, Emmanuel Phiri (34), is a respected elder of the Adventist Church, left the boy at home around 18:00 hours and picked up his wife, who was trapped in Chazanga due to heavy traffic. A moment later, a violent lightning strike ignited an electrical fault, causing the house to burn.
Neighbors desperately tried to put out the flames and save the trapped children, but hell spread too quickly. When Phiri hurriedly retreated after receiving the call in distress, the house had been consumed.

Police spokesman Rae Hamoonga confirmed the incident in an emotional statement, revealing that the boy’s body was recovered from burnt debris.
“Despite the efforts of bystanders, the fire still cannot be contained in time. All three children suffered fatal burns,” Hamoonga said. “An investigation into the exact cause is underway.”
The children’s grandfather overcame the grief in an interview with Diamond TV and tried to speak through tears.
“Now, when I’m talking to you, I lose them at home…forgot these possessions, but life-oh, my own grandson…well, strong boy…” His voice broke down, heartbroken by the audience.
SDA Lusaka North District, who serves as the elder of the church, shared a frustrating tribute online: “Our bassman, Elder Emmanuel Phiri, defeated his three boys on the spot. Pray for the family.”
Pastor Wonder Hamukandi urged the public to gather around families who had lost their loved ones, while neighbors described the boys as smart, playful children whose losses caused huge gaps.
