He served as chief of staff for the former governor and was arrested for money laundering and other charges in January. He is also the Commissioner for Finance and Local Government Affairs of Mr. El-Rufai’s Government.
The former governor expressed relief for the release of his allies and described Saidu’s imprisonment as unjust. He said they have been friends for 53 years since they worked as classmates at Barewa College in Zaria.
He said in a statement;
“After 50 days of kidnapping and unreasonable imprisonment, Bashir Saedu is now free, at home. Bashir has been my friend for over 53 years – a classmate at Barewa College, former local government Commissioner and Finance Commissioner, and former Chief of Staff.
“Bashir is a grassroots politician, a reasonable technocrat and a real civil servant, and progressive politics in Kaduna North and Central Cenatorial regions have largely dominated since the era of App, ANP, ANPP, CPC and APC. ”
“This is the main reason behind his persecution, and before or before the 2027 election, in Sha Allah’s election, there will be a chance that the rewards of the people behind him will be known.
“The role of certain police officers in kidnapping, and the role played by some judges in the Federal High Court and the State High Court in obstructing and delaying bail for crimes that are explicitly guaranteed to be listed in the Public Court Comments – When all facts are assembled. Mr Saidu was arrested in January by police agents from Operation Fushin Kada in Rigachikun. The Independent Corruption and Other Related Crime Commission (ICPC) charged him in the Federal High Court for alleged money laundering.
Mr Saidu met the bail conditions on Wednesday and was released. Family, friends and kind-hearted people gathered at the politician’s home in Kaduna to accept him.
