Works Minister Dave Umahi said the beauty of the streets of the Lagos-Calabal coastal highway inspired a person to want heaven.
Umahi said during a weekend speech on Arise TV that Umahi wanted to know what paradise would be like if the coastal roads were so “so beautiful”.
“I’m there; I’m so excited, I said, if the streets along the coastal highway could be so beautiful, how beautiful would the streets of heaven look? It makes us do better and makes heaven better; it’s a beautiful place.” Umahi said
He said the latest news from the project said that 30 km of the first section of the 750km highway will be prepared to be commissioned by President Bola Tinubu on May 25.
He explained that the road was high enough to be above expected ocean flood levels.
“This puts a lot of the recession buildings in a very serious situation because our road levels are at their first deck level. So we’ve been building retaining walls.”
According to Umahi, the first part is 47.47 kilometers by six lanes, each with three lanes. He added that in the middle of the two lanes, there are train tracks with a width of 12m, along the bridge.
“The first part should be completed within 36 months of March 2024; we have completed it for about a year. By the 14th of this month, we will be promoting it on the Calabar axis,” he said.
Umahi said the Akwa Ibom flag will be carried out after one day and the project’s Ebonyi axis will be marked on April 16.
