The court sentences the pastor to 10 years in prison!

The District Court located in the North Judicial District of Umia Asiya has sentenced Pastor Uche Arua Kalu, 40, to 10 years in prison without an option to fine!

The verdict was conducted on Friday, March 7, 2025 through the defendant’s worship of Onuoha UC (Miss) after the defendant’s confession of the crime.

During the hearing, Investigation Police (IPO) ASP Iweajunwa was asked to introduce the facts of the case.

However, the defendant, Pastor Uche Arua Kalu, denied knowing what he was charged, which is inconsistent with his plea of guilty as early as December 20, 2024.

Prosecutor Chinedu Ikpa Esq from the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Umuahia. Remind the court that the defendant had admitted in the charge form that he had not known that he had committed Grievous C.Rime C.Rime C.Rime C.Rime C.Rime C.Rime C.Rime C.Rime c.rime c.rime.

In a desperate plea of tolerance, the defendant surrendered to his knees, begging the court for mercy and reduced sentences.

He expressed concerns about life imprisonment under Section 7(1)(2) of the Violent Acts Against People (VAPP) Law (VAPP) Prohibited.

The prosecution provided undeniable evidence for the defendant, including his own confession and IPO investigation report.

Citing UKET v. Nation (2024) LPELR –80009 (CA), the prosecutor stressed that to prove a filthy case, three key elements must be identified:

1: The victim must be a minor

2: The defendant must have had sex with the child

3: In this case, the child’s consent is irrelevant

In this case, all these elements were clearly satisfied, leading to the court’s conviction of the defendant.

After reviewing the facts of the case, the court ruled that Rev. Uche Arua Kalu’s physical knowledge of a 4-year-old girl was illegal.

As a result, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison and had no choice of fine, effective March 7, 2025.
