Tensions are rising online after kidnappers hijacked the Facebook account of the late His Holiness Edwin Achi and shared photos of his wife and daughter. The kidnappers are still holding his family hostage.
The Anglican priest and his family were kidnapped from their home in Kaduna State on October 28. The priest was killed last month, although the family managed to raise a ransom and the family was later instructed to retrieve his decomposing body.
Disturbingly, new photos of his wife and daughter have suddenly appeared on his Facebook page, allegedly posted by the kidnappers who still hold them.
The move has left Nigerians worried about the welfare of surviving family members and prompted calls for urgent intervention by security agencies. As of now, there is no official update on the rescue efforts.
The situation prompted strong public condemnation:
One commentator wrote: “This is so heartbreaking. God please keep wife and daughter safe.”
Another wrote: “These kidnappers are no longer afraid of anything. Using his own Facebook account? This is evil.”
