Matthew Kukah, bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, said the northwest has become a huge crime scene.
He made a speech while speaking at a public forum in Abuja on Monday, March 3.
Suk said;
“The indicators are not regular at all. We were told that in the northwest alone, 4,500 violent attacks were recorded, with more than 20,000 people killed, with 76% of the kidnappings in northern Nigeria occurring in the northwest.
The Northwest has become a huge crime scene and we cannot escape this reality.
As non-state actors or ordinary civilians, the fact is that we already know the problems Nigeria is facing now and the violent extremism that has penetrated into our society cannot be resolved through military force or by only political means.
Something different has to happen. I can’t prescribe, but I think that the collective decisions of ordinary men and women, children and elders in the community can help build resilience.
This resilience does not necessarily prevent people from entering, but it gives us the power within us. Our collective survival must depend on our willingness to work and stand together. ”
He said there is no civilization, no important role for women in society and places, and he emphasized: “In Africa, there are many terrible and bad cultural practices that have become dominant and we must give up.”
