The gunman, who was reportedly abducted, has been imprisoned in his captivity, cut off the hands of three victims and released them in the Yagba West Polinage area of Kogi State.
According to Daily Trust, the latest victim, Lanlege Adewale, from Ogbe, the small town of Egbe in the Yagba Community, was kidnapped on Saturday with his hands chopped off by his kidnappers without needing ransom.
Two other people, a driver and an unidentified victim, reportedly were seriously ill at a hospital in Egbe.
According to locals, Adewale and four others were kidnapped on Saturday when their car was ambushed between Egbe and Ikoro in the Yagba community in the state.
The gunmen reportedly marked their cars down, and all the occupants of the vehicles, two men and three women, were crossed into the forest, which extended to that side of the state, to the states of Quara and Ekiti.
Locals quoted one of the victims as saying: “The backup motorcycle riders knocked them into the forest and soon they fell into the hands of the kidnappers in an ambush on the road.
“The armed men wore military uniforms and wielded AK-47 rifles and grabbed five of them. Three of them were women. They brought them to the bushes that linked Kogi to Ekiti and Ekiti and Kwara states,”
A family member who asked not to be named said Adewale was released and did not ask for his ransom because he cut his hands in the bushes and wondered how he survived the blood that was gushing out of the blood for several hours.
A source added that aside from Adewale, the victim who was unable to establish identity due to his critical condition was lying in a hospital in Egbe, where he was rushed after he was released after being cut.
“The other victim was a driver who, in the same situation a few weeks ago, had his hands chopped by a gangster and was still receiving treatment at the hospital where EGBE was
“Residents of Jakar community are now living in fear,” said Egbe residents.
