According to police, a prominent doctor attempted to murder his nuclear engineer’s wife by pushing her away from a trail in Hawaii and hitting a rock in the head.
Gerhardt Konig, 46, allegedly attacked his 36-year-old wife, Arielle Konig, on the Pali lookout stand on Oahu, putting her in critical condition.
Arielle reportedly told officials that Konig beat her with his fist and a rock before trying to push her away from the hiking trail.

In a creepy sign, the alleged attempt to murder was pre-planned, and Konig was said to have produced two syringes containing an unknown substance and poked Arielle with them.
According to Star Advertiser, Arielle told police that Konig attacked her after refusing to take a photo with him.
According to local media reports, she was taken to the hospital with serious head and facial injuries.

Anesthesiologist Konig took off after trying to murder but was detained after a brief chase.
Officials said he was found near the hiking trail after escaping the scene on foot.

“HPD officials found Gerhardt Konig near the Pali Expressway and arrested him after a brief pursuit,” Honolulu police said in a statement.
The couple lived in a $1.5 million home in Maui but visited the beauty spots on Oahu at the time of the alleged incident.
They have been married since 2018.
Konig was previously married and had at least one child.
Konig has been suspended to work for an independent contractor who serves various facilities in Maui Health.
“Maui Health is committed to patient safety and adheres to the highest standards of care,” Maui Health told KHON2.
“We are aware of the allegations against Gerhardt Konig, MD. Dr. Konig has been suspended and pending investigation.”
Konig previously served as assistant professor of anesthesia and bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Engineering.
He then worked as a partner in the anesthesia medical team in Maui.
