Popular Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has narrated the harrowing experience that led to her recent critical surgery, urging everyone to pay close attention to their health.
Speaking with Punch, the star revealed that while the surgery might not be life-threatening for some, it was the most serious medical challenge she’d ever faced.
Omotola said her body finally gave in after enduring months of intense work stress. She recalls being sent to the emergency room multiple times before doctors confirmed she needed immediate surgery, a reality that left her horrified.
She discovered scarring on her stomach, and medical experts later explained that keyhole surgery was not an option because her gallbladder had grown too large.
The actress stressed that she chose to speak publicly about her experience to inspire others to prioritize their health before it’s too late.
She said, “To some, this may not seem like a life-threatening surgery, but to me, it was. I had never been in such a serious condition before and was rushed to the emergency room multiple times. I had been working non-stop, editing the films Love and RR across two continents, and sleeping only two hours a day. My body was overworked. Eventually, after several visits, I was rushed to the hospital and told I needed immediate surgery. It was shocking and scary. My husband wasn’t around, and my kids were scared.
After the surgery, I noticed a scar on my stomach. The surgeon explained that my gallbladder was too large to be removed with keyhole surgery. There is a lot to deal with. I tell people now, if you have severe pain in your chest or back, get a CT scan or MRI right away. Don’t wait like I did. “
