Media personality Iyo has accused officers of the Nigeria Police Force of assault, extortion and robbery, claiming they forcibly emptied his bank account after demanding £6 million.
In a series of posts shared on his Instagram page, Iyo claimed that the incident happened while he was on his way to the gym. According to him, he was betrayed by a bus full of police officers who allegedly forced him onto the bus without any explanation.
He claimed that police beat him severely, broke his ribs, confiscated his mobile phone and forced him to unlock all his bank accounts, including savings accounts. Iyo further claimed that he was accused of cybercrime and forced to contact friends to raise the £6 million demanded by police.
“I’m trying to live a good ‘legal’ life as much as I can… so please tell me why these cops handcuffed me, beat me until I could barely breathe… accused me of fraud and asked me to call my friends and ask me to wire money to complete the 6 million they asked for,” he wrote.
Idai claimed that the police took him to a secluded area within another local government, threatened his life and forced him to withdraw and transfer all the money in his possession. He then claimed they abandoned him at the location, leaving him trapped and injured.
describe the experience as “Police robbed in broad daylight,” IYou lament the lack of surveillance cameras or any means of tracking the officers involved. He expressed concern about what would happen if he had no money to donate.
“This is the worst form of oppression and cannot be tolerated…with all my savings!!!” he added.
