The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) urged the “Bring Back Movement” to suspend its planned national protests on Monday, April 7, 2025, saying the demonstrations were not at the right time and naughty.
In a statement issued by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a military public relations official, police expressed concern about the protest, which will be held in several states, including the Federal Capital Region (FCT). The date coincides with the federal government’s announcement on April 7, a day designed to celebrate the dedication and resilience of officials and men in the Nigerian police force.
When the police recognized the constitutional rights granted by citizens to the Peace Parliament and Association, they questioned the justification for formal activities of protests held on the same day in recognition of the police. “The rationale for the national protests on the same day is suspicious and is believed to be a purposeful attempt to damage the image of Nigerian police,” the statement said.
The force stressed that the National Police Day celebrations will be participated by VIP guests, including foreign police and diplomats, and aim to recognize the police’s achievements in maintaining national security. According to the NPF, protests on the same day could undermine the importance of the incident and damage the reputation of the police and the country.
Police described the protests as “out of time and mischievous” and called on organizers to reconsider their behavior and explore more constructive channels. “We encourage organizers and anyone planning to participate in the protest to have a dialogue with appropriate government agencies to address their concerns,” the statement added.
The NPF reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting civil rights, while encouraging peaceful engagement and cooperation in actions that may lead to destruction.
