This is not true - INEC debunked the report, claiming its chairman, Yakubu Mahmood, has been fired

The Independent National Election Commission INEC has debunked social media reports that its chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, was fired by President Bola Tinubu.

Viral information about WhatsApp shows that Mahmood has been fired.

“Professor Mahmud Yakubu, Chairman of INEC, was once represented by President Tinubu, Professor Bashiru Alamilekan, “The message has no affiliation,

But in a chat with Vanguard, Chief Press Secretary CPS and INEC Chairman Rotimi Oyekanmi simply said: “Please, ignore it. This is not true.”

Yakubu will end his second term during his tenure and is expected to withdraw from the system by the end of the year. The process of appointing INEC presidents is to nominate candidates for president and forward their details to the DSS for analysis by the Ministry of Services.

After this screening, the president later named it the National State Council for consultative review. According to the results, the president sends the name to the Senate for screening and confirmation.
