The federal government said that promotion activities for all paramilitary institutions under the Ministry of the Interior, including the Nigerian Correctional Services, the Federal Fire Service, the Nigerian Immigration Service and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, would be unusual.
Naija News The report said that the chairman of the board and the minister of the interior vitalityaddressed personnel on Wednesday and stressed the need to cancel nepotism and preferences in paramilitary promotion practices.
The function is Permanent Secretary Dr. Magdalene Ajani; CDCFIB Secretary, Major General Abdulmalik Jibrin (RTD); and heads of all major agencies under the leadership of the Ministry of Home Affairs, including Nigeria Correctional Services, Sylvester Ndidi; Nigeria Immigration Bureau, Kemi Nanna Nandap; Federal Fire Service, Engr Abdulganiyu Olola Jaji; and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Forces, Ahmed Abubakar Audi.
Tunji-Ojo said the ministry collaborates with the new concept of the Nigerian Army Resource Center, the model will cater to personnel from controller cadres to assistant controllers (ACGs) and ACG to ACG to deputy controllers (DCGs).
He noted that reform is to ensure a merit-based promotion process where officials must take exams and meet benchmark scores to qualify for promotion.
Tunji-Ojo says on the new model there is an urgent need to promote an elite culture to cultivate a more dynamic and productive workforce.
He said “If qualifications are the only condition of appointment, it would be a serious leadership responsibility if you advance to ACG or DCG.
“As DCG, you should have enough capacity to be a presidential appointment and we will be more diligent in operations at the board level.
“This new development aims to leverage the expertise of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre to promote a more transparent and equitable system, given its long-term expertise in research, education, training and human capacity development.
“If you have spent 30 years serving and you can’t pass the exam, trust me, you won’t.
“We are here to do what the president has entrusted us to do, and that is to ensure that paramilitary institutions play a key role in national security buildings.
“As a government, in order for us to do our best to perform our duties, we must ensure that we must ensure that the best hands hold responsibility.”
Regarding the need to avoid favoritism and partisan services, the Minister reiterated that officials should be provided with fair opportunities during leadership appointments, regardless of background.
He added, “We have to kill prejudice, nepotism, partisanship and selfishness.
