‘This uniform will give you everything you need’ – Nigerian-American soldier shares U.S. military benefits

    • A Nigerian-American soldier advises African immigrants in the United States to consider military service.
    • Target group: healthy people aged 17 to 42.

A Nigerian-American soldier has shared advice to African immigrants in the United States, encouraging those aged 17 to 42 who are in good health to consider joining the military.

He explained that the advantages of military service often exceed those of a typical civilian job, providing opportunities for financial stability, travel, education and career advancement.

He said, “If you are an immigrant from Africa, especially Nigeria, and you have papers but you are still working shifts or a day job, then you are wasting your time. Join the military. It will give you citizenship, free health care, free education, tips and a pension. People retire at 38 or 45 and don’t have to work their entire lives.”

The soldier highlighted the unique benefits of military life, including perks, travel opportunities and career versatility.

“This job will give you a basic salary, food subsidy, clothing subsidy, housing subsidy and various subsidies. In this job, you can be a chef today and a doctor tomorrow, the same job. Except for the military, no other job can give you such a life.” he added.

He also emphasized the job security and competitive advantage military service provides immigrants.

“No matter the shutdown or whatever, our paychecks are still coming in. When you finish your job and start applying for other jobs, they’re going to ask you if you’ve been in the military or if you’re a veteran because companies get tax benefits for hiring people who wear that uniform. That’s the only job that’s going to give you that kind of life.”

He concluded by urging African immigrants to consider military service as a strategic path to success.

“If you work every day, you don’t get paid on the days you’re sick and can’t go. Join the U.S. military. That gives you what I call a competitive advantage over other immigrants. When citizens who were born here are talking and you are talking, they’re going to listen to you.”
