Anambra Governor Charles Soludo condemned those who opposed Agunechemba security outfits, labeled them as supporters and accomplices of kidnappers, armed robbers and other criminals, and marked them as intimidating the state other criminals.
Speaking at the funeral on Saturday, February 15, for the late Justice Azuka, who represented the Labor MP in Onitsha 1 constituency, Soludo vowed to provide justice for those responsible for the killing.
“They murdered justice and we will provide them justice. There are no two ways,” he said.
The governor expressed concern about the cruelty among young people, lamenting that unlike before, the kidnappers now kill the victims even after collecting ransoms.
“In the past, many people were kidnapped and paid ransoms and released. But the young people on these days kidnapped their victims even if they received ransoms. We must condemn what they were doing and must stop. We will not allow them to continue evil.”
Sorudo criticized those who opposed the Agunechemba security initiative and vowed to make Anambra the safest state in Nigeria.
“Some people condemn the safety outfits we set up and even call me my name. But we don’t care what they are talking about.
“Anambra must be ensured to be the most secure state in Nigeria. Those who condemn AguneChemba’s safety are those who work with kidnappers and armed robbers.”
He also warned against using traditional customs to cover up criminals, stressing that despite the government’s respect for religious freedom, it will not tolerate individuals who protect criminals through fetish means.
“We are not against traditional worship because there is religious freedom in our constitution. But if you are preparing for charm and doing other fetish things to protect kidnappers and armed robbers, we will never allow you to operate here. Kidnapping The people have crossed the line, and we are following them now.”
Soludo praised Asagba, Professor Epiphany Azinge of Asaba, took positive steps to prevent criminals from fleeing Anambra to settle in Delta State.
“He immediately discovered that these criminals we were chasing from Anambra were moving into Asaba and he read to them about his own riots that Asaba would not accommodate them. Machinery has been set up to check Asaba’s crimes.
“That’s what a good traditional ruler should do. I hope our Anambra traditional ruler imitates him.”
The funeral was attended by several prominent politicians, including Labour’s presidential candidate Peter Obi, Senators Victor Umeh and Tony Nwoye, among other top party members .
