On Tuesday, May 13, all senators representing Kebi State formally announced their rebellion from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Assembly (APC) on the floor of the Senate in Nigeria, marking a major shift in political consistency in the House of Lords.
Defectors; Senators Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi North) and Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South) are the latest PDP MPs in a series of PDP MPs that can cross the tensions within the opposition.
Their defection increased the APC’s strength in the 10th Senate to 68 members, while the PDP’s representative dropped from 33 to 30.
Two seats in the Senate remained vacant: one was due to the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South, and the other was the new governor of Edo State at Okpebholo, who was sworn in on Monday, evacuated his Edo Central seat.
Amid political readjustment and war before the 2027 election, the deficit emerged, the APC consolidated its majority, and the PDP consolidated the wave of deserters.
