There were three large thunderstorms in Agwa Obidi in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, causing four injuries.
The incident took place on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, which caused a tense community for the incident, as most Aboriginals said the thunderstorm seemed mysterious because it was not accompanied by a heavy downpour.
Mr. Nze Ike, an elder in the village, confirmed the incident of Punch, saying four people are currently fighting for their lives in the hospital after the impact of the thunderstorm on them.
According to him, thunderstorms were accompanied by a little rain.
“It was just a light rain in the community Tuesday, but the impact of the thunderstorm hit three people and they were immediately in trouble. When I talked to you, four people were still in the hospital.”
“Thunder strikes a heavy tree, and people usually cover the shadows and affect almost everyone underneath it.
“Our community allegedly had traditional rulers after a while. Some people were scared that this might be a sign of sacrifice because we’ve never seen anything like this before.”
Nze said some parents called their children to pause any trips to go home until the sick wind blew away.
Collins Ughalla, AGWA’s community leader, described the incident as a huge tragedy.
“We are still mourning. This is the last time that happened in the 1980s. May the Lord rest in peace with their souls,” Ugala said.
