It is worth recalling that the Police Services Commission (PSC) has requested immediate retirement, with all senior police officers serving for over 35 years or over 60 years of age.
The directive was published in a debate surrounding the appointment of Kayode Egbetokun during his tenure as the police governor, who recently turned 60.
PSC’s head of news and public relations Ikechukwu Ani revealed in a statement released Friday that the committee reviewed its 2017 policy, which previously allowed officials to use their enlistment dates instead of the initial appointment date.
The PSC has now reversed the decision to align with Public Services Rule No. 020908 (I&II), which calls for retirement once an officer reaches the age of 35 or 60.
He further explained that the committee reconsidered its 2017 position after determining its inconsistency with public service regulations regarding length of service and retirement hours.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced major leadership changes in several federal universities, now known as Yakubu Gowon University, including the University of Abuja.
The changes took effect immediately, Naija News reported that Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser to information and strategy, revealed in a statement Thursday.
At Yakubu Gowon University, President Tinubu dissolved the entire council and caused Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi to give up her role as Vice-President.
The current pro-principal of Markurdi Agricultural University, Lanre Tejuoso, has been appointed as the pro-principal of Yakubu Gowon University. He will inherit Makurdi from Joy Emordi, the former president of Alvan Ikoku University of Education.
To replace Mike Di, President Tinubu appointed Professor Lapatricia Manko as Acting Vice-Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University for a term of six months.
When she is available, she will not be eligible for a substantive deputy prime minister position.
Additionally, President Tinubu has taken Professor Ponecarp Emeka Chigbu from his post as Vice-Chancellor at the University of Nigeria (UNN), and his term ended on February 14.
Professor Oguejiofu T. Ujam has been appointed as successor for six months and is not eligible for a permanent position.
The Nigeria Port Authority (NPA) announced a 15% increase in tariffs, marking the first adjustment in three decades.
NPA Managing Director Abubakar Dantsoho spoke on Thursday during a stakeholder interaction in Lagos, represented by Olalekan Badmus, executive director of Oceans and Operations, confirmed the growth.
Dantsoho explained that despite significant changes in the economic shift, including rising exchange rates, rising wages, increased fuel and lubricant costs, and continued inflation, the agency has maintained tariffs for 32 years.
He noted that the decision was forced by the urgent need to restore rotten port infrastructure, modernize outdated equipment, and expand capacity to increase efficiency and competitiveness.
Dantsoho stressed that port authorities rely on revenue generated from operations worldwide to maintain infrastructure, dredge channels, procure modern marine vessels, digitalize transactions and ensure port safety.
He added that the new rates will enable NPA to invest in automation and workforce training while promoting adoption of Port Community Systems (PC) and National Single Window (NSW) initiatives.
