President Bola Tinubu admitted on Thursday that the serious economic difficulties faced by Nigerians include rising costs of living, hunger, insecurity, unemployment and the pressure to sustain their families.
Speaking at the National May Day celebration (Workers’ Day) held in Eagle Square, Labour and Employment Minister Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, the president acknowledged the challenge as “real, critical, and solutions that need to be determined”.
Naija News reported that he assured Nigerians his determination to resolve these issues.
While acknowledging the challenging global economic climate, Tinubu highlights the particularly serious impact on Nigerian citizens.
The President further highlighted his government’s commitment to addressing these issues, a policy aimed at creating jobs, reducing poverty, economic growth, and support for the most vulnerable Nigerians.
The Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) calls for the extension of retirement age for all civil servants across the country during its May celebration in 2025.
NLC Chairman Joe Ajaero spoke at the event, urging the federal government to coordinate retirement policies for all departments of public services.
This is not the first time that NLC has advocated this reform. In 2023, Ajaero told Punch that the league will remain unwavering in its efforts to interact with President Bola Tinubu.

The Independent Corruption and Other Related Crime Commission (ICPC) announced Thursday that while the federal government released 100 billion schools to these schools, it was allocated only 28.8 billion to students at each level 3 institutions.
