The Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP) in the Bodo Community in Gokana Local Government Area, River State resumed operations after a fire broke out on Monday night, February 17.
The fire broke out in parts of the pipeline along Bodo-Bonny Road, and videos were circulating on social media, showing flames rising into the sky. TNP is a crucial federal oil transportation line that supplies crude oil to the Bonny export terminal in River State.
The explosion caused temporary closures, raising concerns about potential environmental damage and disruption to oil supply in the region.
Renaissance group spokesman Tony Okonedo confirmed Wednesday’s operational recovery. “Operations have resumed. We previously suspended actions to respond to third-party interventions, but now we are back.”
The incident occurred when the rivers intensified political tensions. Lawmakers on Monday stood in line with federal capital territorial minister Nyesom Wike, bringing out improvisation procedures against state governor Siminalayi Fubara.
In response to the crisis, President Bola Tinubu declared the river in a state of emergency on Tuesday. The president also suspended Fubara, his Ngozi ODU and state legislators. Tinubu appointed retired vice-chancellor Ibok-ete Ibas to manage the state.
