President Trump fired hundreds of workers in weather forecasts and commercial fisheries.
Nigeria News Nalin The report said the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump informed about 600 employees on Thursday to generate critical weather forecasts, maintain radar systems, collect data from satellites and monitor the major commercial fisheries they were fired.
The Nigerian news platform learned that the termination letter has been sent to staff at the NOAA’s office of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The move is part of an effort by the Trump administration to narrow down federal agencies, including weather and climate researchers.
The report shows that layoffs can be extended to more than 800 workers of the agency’s 13,000 employees.
The layoffs are expected and more layoffs are planned on Friday.
This marks a challenging time for NOAA and its employees to scale down the scale across a broader government.
Meanwhile, federal judge William Alsup ordered the Trump administration to reverse orders for mass dismissals by government workers, ruling that they may be illegal.
