Trump has frozen funds amid protests in Cornell and the Northwest.
Nigeria News Nalin The Donald Trump administration has frozen more than $1 billion in federal funds for Cornell University, the report said.
Northwestern University has also frozen about $790 million in funding to investigate alleged civil rights violations, according to the White House.
This is because Trump threatens to stop federal protests against schools and other issues such as diversity, equity and inclusion programs, and transgender policies.
The White House confirmed the funding pause Tuesday night, providing no further details on what it needs or grants to the school.
Cornell revealed in a statement that it had received more than 75 stop orders from the Department of Defense earlier Tuesday.
These orders are related to research that “is important to U.S. defense, cybersecurity and health.” However, Cornell also noted that it has not received any information that confirmed the $1 billion freezing grant.
Northwest claims it is aware of media reports about the funding freeze but has not received any formal notice from the government and insists it has cooperated in the investigation.
“Northwest’s federal funding has driven innovative and life-saving research, such as the recent development of Northwest researchers in the world’s smallest pacemaker, and research conducted in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.
“This kind of research is at jeopardy now,” a Northwest spokesman told Reuters.
