State Police Command spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the latest matters in a statement Tuesday, February 18, saying police have activated an action plan to re-arrest the fleeing suspect, adding that the wrong Police will face direct disciplinary actions against officers’ negligence.
According to PPRO, two suspects escaped while assisting police investigations to arrest the recipient of the vehicle the gang used in the criminal activities.
“The Chief of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, Dr. FWC MNIPS, received a report today on February 18, 2025 on the escape of two suspects involved in the murder of the late Justice Azuka, and compiled on behalf of members of Onitsha 1 constituency,” the statement read.
“As a result, he has re-arrested the command’s human, operational and intelligence assets for the suspect and has filed immediate disciplinary action against the officers who found Wonton in this regard.
“Preliminary information shows that after the criminal gang confessed, two suspects assisted police investigators in arresting the recipient and recovering the operating vehicles the gang used in the deadly event.
“During the onslaught of the operator, the suspect (taker) was arrested and two vehicles suspected of being stolen from the unsuspecting public were recovered. Unfortunately, the other two suspects fled the scene.
“To this end, *CP* assured that the order is on the offensive against every criminal in the state and works hard to ensure that the suspect is re-arrested and served. If the culprit is found, the officers who make the mistake will also face disciplinary action .”
