Brazilian authorities arrested two people in connection with a foiled attempt at bombing at a massive concert in Lady Gaga in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday night.
According to police, the suspects are linked to groups that encourage hate speech and radicalization of young people. Investigators revealed that the planned attack targeted participants of the LGBTQ+ concert, which attracted more than 2 million fans to Copacabana Beach.
“They clearly said they are planning to launch an attack at a concert at Lady Gaga,” Rio Police Secretary Felipe Cury said in a press conference on Sunday.

To prevent widespread alerts and misinformation, law enforcement chose not to disclose threats before concerts. On the venue, security tightened, as Gaga performed popular hits including “Born This Way,” one of which was the LGBTQ+ community since its release in 2011, which symbolized a song that included “Born This Way”, which included 5,200 police and military personnel to protect attendees.
Lady Gaga’s team responded after the incident was revealed through media reports. A spokesman said in a statement that there were no signs of danger when the incident occurred.
“There were no known security issues before and during the show, and no communication between the police or authorities regarding any potential risks with Lady Gaga,” the delegate said.
They added that the organizers had coordinated closely with law enforcement under the auspices of the show. “The team worked closely with law enforcement throughout the concert planning and execution, and all parties were confident in the security measures that had been made.”
An investigation into the attempted attack is underway.
