Stakeholders of Crystal Palace Football Club will have to wait a few days before they understand their fate in the 2025/26 Europa League.
It is possible that Crystal Palace will not compete in the Europa League due to the European Union’s opposition to the dual ownership of the teams participating in its club competitions. The Hawks qualified after defeating Manchester City in the final to win the FA Cup.
Crystal Palace’s participation is at risk because of UEFA’s multi-club ownership rule, which prevents teams with the same ownership from competing in the same Europe. But John Textor, co-owner of French club Lyon, has agreed to sell his 44% stake in the palace to help their case.
Therefore, UEFA has decided to wait until the outcome of the appeal and then make a decision on the participation of the palace. This is due to Lyon’s downgrade to Ligue 2, which is due to the club’s poor financial situation.
It is not yet known how long it will take for Lyon’s appeal, and the UEFA statement will announce more details “in due time”. If the Palace wins a seat in the competition, they will enter the group stage that begins in September 2025.
The group stage draw is on August 29, 2025.
