Nigeria News Nalin Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in drama arts and film studies at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, reportedly explained what led to his assault by a female student identified as Goddy Mbakwe Preciade, a third-year history and international studies student.
The incident took place on campus and began when Okoye interrupted students’ recording of dance videos in the corridor of the Academy of Arts.
An eyewitness told the news reporter: “The lecturer kicked her in the shoulder behind him and said, ‘I’m sorry. But she was obviously frustrated and shouted, “Can you imagine how he hit me?” ”
The situation escalated into confrontation, and students grabbed the lecturer’s clothes before onlookers intervened.
The video of the dispute that was rampant on social media showed the student lashing out at the lecturer.
Okoye tells one side of his story in a video shared by Unizik 94.1FM.
He said: “When I saw a lady in the corridor of the Art Academy, I was leaving the classroom to go to the office. She was making Tiktok videos because of the way this place looks like, I needed to pass and someone was on the other side.
“I said, “I’m sorry, and then left.” When she made the thermal insulation comment, I had to go back to first confirming whether she was a student in the department or mine.
“I need her to delete the video. I actually asked her to delete it in front of me. When she refused, I reached out and confiscated the phone. That’s when hell relaxed and the rest was history,” he said, and He will make further action to the university’s committee, added.
In a statement signed by Njelita Louis, director of agency information, public relations and agreements, the university confirmed that Vice President Professor Joseph Ikechebelu had ordered a comprehensive investigation.
“We urge all concerned and members of the public to remain calm as we strive to pursue the truth.
The statement read in part: “The University is committed to upholding discipline and etiquette and we will ensure appropriate action and sanctions are taken based on the findings.”
The National Nigerian Student Association also condemned the incident and called for a thorough investigation.
