The United States has launched a strike against militants linked to the Islamic State group (IS) in northwest Nigeria, where the militants are trying to establish a foothold.
Camp run by the group in Sokoto state came under attack close to the U.S.-Niger border
the military said. The number of casualties was unclear, but both U.S. and Nigerian officials said militants were killed.
US President Donald Trump said The Christmas strike was “deadly” and labeled the group “terrorist scum”, saying they “mainly target and viciously kill innocent Christians”.
Nigeria’s Foreign Minister Yusuf Maitama Tugal told the BBC it was a “joint operation” and “had nothing to do with a particular religion”
