Farmers in the Agui local government area of Ogbi State, Kebi State, are allegedly facing threats from members of the Lakurava terrorist group, who warned them not to abandon traditional cattle-driven agricultural practices in support of mechanized equipment.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama said the terrorists issued a warning that anyone who found farming with mechanized tools instead of cattle would face execution.
This warning instilled fear and panic among residents of affected communities, many of whom have begun transitioning to modern agricultural technology due to the ongoing rustling of cattle in the area.
“Now, terrorists are deciding how we should farm,” a local source said. “They forbid us from using machines. When we use cattle, they catch them. We are farming for sustainability and commercial purposes.”
The intelligence sources also reportedly confirmed that the threat was credible and had been distributed in various villages of the Augie LGA. Community members now urge Nigeria’s military and government to intervene immediately.
