Nigerian rapper vector aggravates the dispute between Ikeja Electric Power Company and military personnel, after accusing soldiers of attacking officials of the power-distribution company that had been disconnected.
On Friday, March 7, 2025, a video surfaced online showing Ikeja Electric’s head of corporate communications, Kingsley Okotieexplain the hardship in detail. He claimed that soldiers targeted employees’ phone calls, damaged cameras, and tampered with the company’s IT infrastructure.
Responding to the video, Vector visited social media to express his views, accusing Ikeja Electric of having a high tariff financial burden under the band without the need to provide a committed service. The rapper said: “But you have been financially harassing citizens, forcing everyone to serve everyone without the bands mentioned above, and everything was stressing the average person at the time.
His statement sparked reactions from social media users, one user Adewale believes that while Ikeja Electric’s actions may be frustrating, military intervention is not the right way to go. He suggested that military officials should seek resolutions through appropriate channels rather than resorting to self-help, especially given the facility’s alleged owed 4 billion in electricity bills.
In response, the vector highlights the psychological and emotional losses of military personnel and points out that soldiers facing life-threatening situations often lack proper treatment, which makes it unrealistic to expect them to remain calm in stressful situations.
He said: “The officers who were barely treated enough after facing a large number of explosions and anti-aircraft ammunition – are you expecting that they would make the reason for dem normal?
The exchange has driven further discussion on social media, with many debating the broader issues of the ethics of the billing system of the power companies, the response of the military, and the challenges of the power supply in Nigeria.
However, you have been financially harassing citizens, forcing everyone to have no fees for the aforementioned band without the aforementioned band A service in a country where everything emphasizes the average person.
