Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has approved the revocation of 4,794 land titles for more than 40 years.

In the central region, Garki I and II, Wuse I and II, Asokoro, Maitama and Guzape, a total of 8,375 owners have not paid ground rent in the past 43 years.

This was announced at a press conference of the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Participate in the eventLand Director of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Chiriafa As confirmed in a statement Naija News On Monday, Olayinka.

The statement reveals that the landowner’s failure to pay, in violation of the terms and conditions of granting the right of occupation, which is consistent with Article 28, Article 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act.

The minister’s aide added that ownership holders who default to paying one to ten years of ground rent also have a 21-day grace period, after which the affected title will be revoked.

“It should be noted that since 2023, the FCTA has published numerous publications in national newspapers and announcements in broadcast media, calling on defaulters to pay all outstanding bills and ground rents. All of this has produced no response as several allocators failed to pay.

“It is important to state that the land rent for land-owned properties in the FCT is based on existing legislation. It clearly stipulates it under the terms and conditions of granting the right to occupy and shall be paid on the first day of January each year without payment.

“Therefore, a list of land ownership for default payment of ground rents is compiled in the ten oldest regions of the Federal Capital City (FCC) of the ten oldest regions (FCC). They are; Central Regional Area (Cadastral A00), Garki I (Cadastral A01), Wuse I (Cadastral A02), Garki II (A03), Asokoro (Cadastral A 03), Maitama (Cadastral A 04), Maitama (Cadastral A A05), cadastral ail a 05), cad sirstral ii ii 2 cadastral wuse wuse at astral atstral with at as cad at astral with www www www www www www www www www www www www www www 07), Wuse II (Cadastral area A08) and Guzape (Cadastral area A09).

“As of the end of 2024 and to this day, a total of 8,375 property owners will owe a total of 6,967,980,119. In other words, a total of 8,375 owners have not paid ground rent until 2024.

“In total, 4,794 land titles defaulted on ground rent payments for 10 years and more. This means that in the listed areas, 4,794 property owners did not pay ground rent in the past 10 years.

“This violates the terms and conditions of granting possession, which is consistent with the provisions of Article 28, paragraph 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act.

“The title of property defaulted on ground rent payments of 10 years and more than 10 years has been immediately revoked.

“The grace period was also given for a 21-day grace period, which would default to paying one to ten years of ground rent payments, after which the affected titles will be revoked.” Statement reading.
