Federal Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi said that the Federal Capital Territory Minister (FCT) and River Governor Nyesom Wike, former Northern Governor, cannot be blamed for the state of emergency in River State.
Recall that on Tuesday, March 18, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the oil-rich state, blaming it for a protracted political crisis. The president suspended the governor and House members for six months, appointing former Navy Chief of Staff Ibok Ibas as the sole administrator.
However, many accused the president of blaming Fubara as Wike for the crisis.
In an interactive meeting with state legislators, Fagbemi dismissed claims that Wick caused a river emergency on Thursday. He accused Governor Fubara of political logjam for causing a state of emergency declaration.
“In some cases, we have to show up clearly.
Fagbemi added that the Supreme Court concluded that the governor imagined that he might be impeached and ordered the demolition of the House to prevent this. He said if the Supreme Court concluded that the river has no government, then the responsible leader would be of no help, not Tuesday’s decision.
“The President made a very bold decision. When things stand, it is our responsibility to respect the Supreme Court’s judgment to the greatest extent,” he said.
Fagbemi recommends those who are not satisfied with the river’s announcement of emergency rules to reach the National Assembly
“If the National Assembly thinks that everything the president has done is not good, then he will be two-thirds of the National Assembly,” he said.
