A video shared by a Ghanaian man of a woman being firmly persuaded by a female relative to accept her husband’s new second wife has sparked widespread discussion online.
The viral video, reportedly recorded in a Zongo community in Ghana, a predominantly Hausa-speaking settlement, shows the older woman advising the first wife to just go with the status quo and ignore the opinions of her friends.
In the video, the narrator draws attention to the harsh and forceful tone the women use when warning their wives not to trust friends or “human beings,” suggesting that outside influences may worsen the state of her marriage.
The woman was also advised by her family to keep her marital problems a closely guarded secret and not even reveal the challenges she was facing to her own mother.
The video has sparked heated debate since appearing online, with many viewers questioning cultural expectations for women in polygamous marriages
