Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai said that although he knew his academic record in the academic record at the University of Chicago in the United States, he and other politicians supported President Bra Tinubu in the 2023 election.
El-Rufai, who recently defected from APC to SDP, said in an interview with BBC Hausa that they support Tinubu because of his performance as governor of Lagos and that he believes he can replicate the same as the president.
“What makes me feel pain is that the government that we support and confident will do well because despite the challenges he faces, we see what Tinob does in Lagos.
We all know his problem in Chicago, but we think he can copy his work for Nigeria in Lagos and let us support him. But, he failed. ” He said
El-Rufai also addressed speculations about his presidential ambitions in the 2027 election, saying the decision was not him, but his party and people.
“It’s not me who decides, it’s the political parties and the people who decide. Even when I’m competing for the governor, people know and convince (Mumhamed) Buhari, who called me and asked me to play.”
El-Rufai has been criticizing Tinubu’s administration since the Senate refused to confirm him as minister.
