‘We were lied to’ – American woman says IShowSpeed changed her view of Africa

    • An American woman has gone viral after admitting that IShowSpeed’s Africa tour changed her long-held misconceptions about Africa.
    • She expressed shock at the continent’s development, music and diversity, claiming she had been misled into thinking Africa was underdeveloped and a monolithic country.

An American woman has shared how popular streamer IShowSpeed’s recent visit to Africa completely changed her view of the continent.

Recall that IShowSpeed embarked on an African tour earlier this year, visiting countries such as Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Benin Republic, and more. Livestreams and videos of his trip continue to spark discussion online.

In a now-viral video, the American woman admitted that watching IShowSpeed exposed how wrong she knew about Africa. She was shocked by the level of development she saw, including modern infrastructure, clean water, cars and stable internet connections.

She reveals that growing up, she was taught to believe that Africa was underdeveloped and culturally limited. According to her, she once thought Shakira’s “Waka Waka” was the only popular African song until she discovered Nigerian music star Davido and other aspects of African pop culture.

The woman further accused the US government of misleading its citizens about Africa, saying people were “brainwashed” to view the continent in a negative light. She also confessed that she was shocked to learn that Africa is a continent made up of many countries, rather than one country as she once thought.

“IShowSpeed has really changed the game. I had no idea Africa was such a beautiful country. They have cars, water and WiFi. We were really fooled. I used to think the only song in Africa was Waka Waka by Shakira, only to find out they have Davido. The government has brainwashed us. We really need to get back to our brothers and sisters. What is really surprising is that it has more than one country. I really thought there was only Africa…” she said.
