Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde clarified the rejection of the coalition, coalition and merger proposal led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, noting that the main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), did not endorse the discussion.

In an interview on channel television on Tuesday, Governor Makinde explained that such important political arrangements should not be made without proper consultation with the party’s managerial organs.

“We didn’t just wake up and say at the party that I was like XYZ, just put the party in any arrangement when the party organs don’t know what you are doing.,” Makinde said.

“They don’t know everything about this alliance. They also don’t know whether it’s personal or whether you’re doing it for the best interests of the Party and the Nigerian people. These are all crucial. ”

His comments were in response to the announcement of the announcement on March 20 at the Yar’adua Centre in Abuja, where he announced the formation with Malam Nasir El-Rufai and Peter Obi (represented by Tanko Yunusa) alliance The aim is to challenge all Progressive Conferences (APCs) in the 2027 elections.

Makinde reiterated the position of the PDP Governor Forum, which is keeping its distance from the coalition.

He defended the communiqué of the forum, stressing that the resolution had been made after thorough consultations with party stakeholders.

“The resolution reflects extensive consultations with party stakeholdersMakinde said he stressed that the decision of the Ibadan meeting has been confirmed by the leadership of his party.

He further explained that the governor did not meet in isolation, but invited key party managers, including acting presidents, national legal counsel and secretary of state organizations.

“Other members of the NWC are waiting around the conference venue in case they are needed,” he added.

Makinde stressed that any process of alliance or merger discussions must be conducted and noted that if the party institution is to take such action, it must participate in the leadership and manager of the party.

“If the party manager, the party’s organs are being merged or unionized, the party’s manager needs to know,” he explained.

However, he clarified that individual members are free to interact with the people they choose, but as a party, the PDP has not yet reached that stage.

“Our first mission was to put the party on a solid pedestal,” Makinde said.Politics is a game of interest. You have to be interested, and have to be consistent with the wider organs of the party before going out to meet others. ”
