Nigeria News Nalin It is reported that the federal capital’s territory minister NYESOM WIKE has officially revoked the land title of the Abuja People’s Democratic Party’s National Secretariat as the party failed to pay ground rent in the past 20 years.

In a letter dated March 13, 2025, Wike informed the PDP of revocation, citing the party’s continued violation of the Land Use Act, which requires payment of ground rent for real estate in the Federal Capital Territory.

This letter was signed by the Director of the Land Administration (FTC). Chiriafanoted that despite repeated public notices, PDP failed to remit the required payments from 2006 to 2025.

The notice is “Profile No.: Notice of Occupy Rights in MISC 81346”, which specifically refers to plot No. 243, located in the central area of Abuja, where the PDP country headquarters is located.

According to the letter, the FCT Minister used the powers granted by the Land Use Act of 1978 to revoke the PDP because they failed to pay the annual rent for 20 years.

Wick’s letter said, “In view of the continuity of your continued breach of the terms and conditions granted possession, i.e., failure to pay the annual rent for twenty (20) years from January 1, 2006 to January 1, 2025 to January 1, 2025. Although this is paid by all ethnic officials since 2023 since 2023, the bill paid many AD on all national sales bills in all national sales bills, but this administration is paid for the sale in all countries, which is a lot of publications of the company’s property.”

In the letter, the FCTA government further clarified that it would immediately have the PDP’s national secretariat until all outstanding payments and bills are resolved.

Wick added that the violations committed by the PDP violated Articles 28, 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act.

The PDP has not responded to the minister’s actions, but the move has a significant impact on the opposition, which may now face challenges in maintaining the capital headquarters.

The party has long been a voice critic of the current government, and this latest development could further exacerbate political tensions between rule and opposition parties.
