A 37-year-old woman in Spain has been accused of selling a 2,000 euro baby to a family in Cordoba.
Now the baby is taking care of the later Andalusian Social Services, and the mother has been arrested by the state police and has been arrested along with four other people in the case.
The investigation began in March this year when the mother herself filed a complaint. She claimed that a family from Cordoba kidnapped her newborn daughter and demanded a payment of €3,000 to allow her to see her again.
The complainant said that in November 2024, she met a 24-year-old man at a party in Madrid. She told him she was worried that if she was born in the Spanish capital, social services would take her daughter away. The reason she was worried was that they had seized the custody of the other six children from her.
According to the version she made for the police, the young man was willing to take her to Cordoba and take care of her until she gave birth. The complainant said she wanted to return to Madrid with the baby after birth, but Cordoba’s family assured her that they would take her there in a few days.
The woman later claimed that when she did not let her daughter come back a week later, she began receiving threats about her family, asking her to stay €3,000 for her month in Cordoba if she wanted to see her daughter again.
The initial investigation found that the woman changed the version of what happened to her. In fact, the biological mother has allegedly reached a deal to sell her daughter to a couple who are undergoing fertility treatment in Cordoba for 2,000 euros.
Investigators found that the complainant respondent went to the civil registration agency in Cordoba with the so-called buyer. There, the biological mother and future “father” are listed as parents of newborns.
The man then withdrew €2,000 from the ATM cash machine and handed it to his mother. Afterwards, she was taken to Madrid by another family member.
Police also found that the mother’s six other children were taken away after a 2022 court order and found the children were in neglect. All six were placed under custody of the Madrid region.
According to the survey, the woman regrets her daughter’s sale, which is why the family asked them to pay her, plus 1,000 euros, to cover the cost of her stay in Cordoba this month.
The state police arrested the mother and four family members who purchased the baby. The buyer was stopped on his way to his pediatric appointment.
