Eha-Ohala, composed of autonomous communities of Mgbuji, Umujiove and Abor, has been facing a serious crisis that has led to widespread protests.
On Tuesday morning, around 8:30 a.m., a group of women took to the streets to stop Nkalagu-eha-Amufu-Ikem-ikem-ikem-Obollo-a for Federal Highway. Their demonstrations are a plea for the Enugu State government to take immediate action and for the lasting solution to the ongoing violence that plagues its communities.
Protesters strongly criticized security agencies, accusing them of neglecting their duties and allegedly covering up the perpetrators of the attacks. They share painful testimony from women suffering from brutal sexual violence, physical assault and dismemberment.
A video obtained by the Saharareporters captured the pain of protesters who were unable to enter the farmland for fear of attacks. They noted that this exacerbated economic difficulties and food insecurity in the region.
“Our women were raped by Fulani herders. Our husbands no longer went to the farm. Our sons dared not walk into the fields. When women tried to farm, they were beaten and raped, some even inserted into private parts,” the distressed woman reinstalled.
Saharareporter has broadly covered violence with the border community of Eha-Amufu in Benue State and reported that between 2020 and 2025, more than 150 people were killed, while 28 farm settlements were invaded and occupied by Herdsmen.
Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer SP Daniel Ndukwe’s efforts were not successful because he did not call back for comments on the matter.
Similarly, the Enugu State government has not yet resolved the protests, and Governor Peter Mbah’s media department remains silent on the situation.
