Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has criticized former Labor Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, saying President Bola Tinubu abandoned power due to his long stay abroad.
Omokri was responding to Obi’s post on X, in which Obi questioned the president’s whereabouts and accused him of dereliction of duty. In response, Omokri accused Obi of misleading Nigerians, insisting that Tinubu’s whereabouts had been publicly disclosed.
He said President Tinubu is currently in Abu Dhabi to participate in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026, a visit officially announced by the President. Omokri also refuted claims that Nigerians have not heard from the president since December 2025, noting that Tinubu conducted a New Year broadcast late last year and conducted several public events.
Omokri reported that Tinubu visited Borno, Bauchi and Lagos States between December 21 and 23, 2025, attended a wedding in Maiduguri, expressed condolences to the family of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, and then began to enjoy his constitutional leave.
Omokri defended Tinubu’s foreign travel, arguing that international travel was vital for diplomacy and investment. Citing former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s past foreign tours, he said Tinubu’s activities had attracted significant investments and boosted economic growth.
Omokri concluded that Obi’s comments were dishonest and showed a lack of understanding of leadership.
