On Monday, April 7, young protesters violated police warnings and staged protests in Lagos and Oyo State under the banner of the following movement.
Lagos protesters wore signature orange berets and started a rally in Ikeja under the bridge, crossing the main road as the police looked at the police while shouting songs of unity.
The Nigerian police force has urged the group to cancel its planned national demonstrations, calling the timing “bad-conceived and naughty.”
In response, activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore dismissed police concerns, denied that the protests were intended to undermine the National Police Day celebrations.
Although the protests did not focus on specific demands, action has been mobilizing around key national issues, including the economic situation in Nigeria and the recent announcement of a state of emergency in the River State.
In Oyo State, members of the movement held a peaceful demonstration in Ibadan, the state capital, with security agents present to maintain order.
